Boehringer Ingelheim Post Doc - Cell culture media development (mechanistic modelling) in Biberach, Germany

The Position

We offer a post-doctoral role within our cell culture media development team. Our mission is to optimize media formulation, preparation and advanced analytics providing state-of-the-art medium that supports the production of high-quality biologics. As a team, we are driven by scientific excellence and innovation, with bioprocess modelling serving as a key technology, instrumental in enhancing our speed and reactivity.

In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to expand our media development digital portfolio in close collaboration with other teams, including modeling, upstream and downstream bioprocess development, bioprocess analytics, cell line development, and statistics.

This Position is limited for 2 years.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will act as scientific expert in the area of mammalian cell culture media development with a strong background in mathematical modelling of bioprocesses.

  • Moreover, you will drive the implementation and further development of cell culture models based on mechanistic and statistical approaches including metabolic flux analysis.

  • Furthermore, you will give model guided input to identify potential development opportunities in feeding strategies and address scientific challenges in the context of cell culture media development.

  • You will act as key collaborative link between our media, modeling, and analytical experts. You will analyze gaps and communicate needs regarding spent media analytical requirements.

  • Through your solid expertise, you will be responsible for experimental planning of cell culture processes and subsequent analysis of diverse cell culture process data using advanced statistical, modeling and software tools.

  • In addition, you will be responsible for innovation projects in your field of expertise from initial idea to implementation in cell culture process development and future biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

Requirements

  • PhD. in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or similar discipline with experience in model development and simulation, parameter estimation, model analysis and validation, and model application for bioprocess optimization

  • Programming skills in Python, R or Matlab

  • Experience with metabolic flux analysis of Chinese Hamster Ovary and/or Human Embryonic Kidney cell processes and systems biotechnology tools

  • Experience with metabolic analytical technologies such as LC-MS/MS and culturing in bioreactors is beneficial

  • Goal oriented, team player with excellent communication skills

  • Fluency in spoken and written English, German is beneficial
