JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is located in the Division of Blind Services, at the Career, Technology, & Training Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired Center(CTTC). The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing Vocational Rehabilitation instruction with a primary focus in job readiness to include setting up work experiences both on and off campus which would allow blind and visually impaired individuals to succeed based on their goals (educational or vocational outcome).

EXAMPLES OF WORK DUTIES:

  • Maintain accurate, current and concise records of assessed need for Vocational Rehabilitation, goals and objectives, skill acquisition, estimated hours of needed service, and progress toward short and long-term goals in the Job Readiness Class.

  • Conduct employment meetings local businesses, governmental organizations and other entities to increase Rehab Center options for setting up work experiences, job shadowing opportunities, and vocational exploration for students.

  • Conduct initial evaluation of clients referred for training to determine level of skills and knowledge.

  • Maintain records class participation and student progress.

  • Prepare timely student progress reports.

  • Develop lesson plans that reflect the daily objectives needed to meet established goals.

  • Maintain equipment and supplies and keep inventory in good repair, purchasing as necessary.

  • Attend workshops and conferences for professional growth; participate in public education as needed and serve as a resource person for staff, students and the public. Recommend ancillary services such as audiology, low vision and physical therapy, which would enhance students’ program. Assist in training volunteers or interns assigned to the Center.

  • Provide class coverage in the absence of other instructors.

  • Perform other duties as requested.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.

  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Ability to coordinate a service program.

  • Ability to assess program policies and procedures in relation to client needs.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree from a college or university and four years of professional experience in health, social, economic or rehabilitative programs.

  • A master's degree from a college or university in public administration, counseling, psychology, rehabilitation or social work can substitute for one year of the required general experience.

  • A doctorate from a college or university in public administration, counseling, psychology, rehabilitation or social work can substitute for two years of the required experience.

  • Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
