Make your mark in Underwriting Support

This is an exciting new role where you will lead our Marine and Aerospace Underwriting Support Team. You will have the opportunity to shape this role to make it your own and build a fantastic network across all parts of the business.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Actively manage a team of 8-10 Underwriting Assistants in all aspects, such as hiring, performance management, development, and schedule coordination.

  • Develop key relationships with the field and home office Underwriting leaders to execute the end-to-end underwriting processes. Understand the business’ strategy and how operations can enable and support it.

  • Attend underwriting reviews/operational meetings and reports on operational process changes, regulatory changes, policy booking, policy issuance, or adjustment backlogs.

  • Manage and organize the day-to-day work with an outsourced Shared Services function.

  • Define SLA’s, KPI’s, measure vendor performance, establish quality assurance frameworks and ensure priorities of work are clear and tasks are executed timely and within service levels.

  • Contribute to projects across different functions and focus on standardization of processes and procedures. Track and translate quality, timeliness, productivity, and service delivery requirements into individual, team, and unit metrics.

  • Communicate and collaborate across the organization to provide solutions / recommendations to achieve organizational success.

  • Review and manage production and quality control reports and take appropriate action for improved results.

  • Review workflows/processes on a semi-annual basis in order to identify process efficiencies. Document workflow/process changes, create operating procedures (SOP’s), onboard and train onshore/offshore staff, and implement and monitor change

  • Act as point of contact for Internal Audit and Internal risk / control groups; ensuring compliance with audit & other guidelines and assisting with developing responses and action plans in response to audit findings.

  • Collaborates with underwriting on requested individual account service agreements to ensure resources, system capabilities, and time requirements are achievable.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the support unit.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • 5+ years (Commercial) Insurance experience required, Specialty lines product knowledge is a plus.

  • Good understanding of underwriting value chain / E2E process in insurance incl. knowledge of Multinational programs and reinsurance types / structures.

  • People management experience – hiring, performance management, coaching, mentoring.

  • Experience in managing vendors (third party business process outsourcing provider)

  • Advanced MS Office skills (word, excel, powerpoint and ideally visio) and ability to produce high quality outputs in terms of content, structure and layout of any documents.

  • Experience of managing projects and improving processes.

  • Analysis and conceptual skills that help structure an approach for any given challenge and ability to communicate to different audiences at varying levels of detail.

  • Excellent communicator (verbally and in writing) with the ability to manage stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proactive, independent work ethic with strong time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
