This new and exciting role is based in Frankfurt, Germany and has come about following Citi’s commitment and investment to support the international growth plans of the Western European Mid-Market businesses . Citi Commercial Bank (CCB) Germany was established in 2021 to support Mid-Market businesses and fast-growing innovative companies headquartered in Germany and Austria with a turnover of up to EUR 3 billion and more.

The success of the CCB Germany team has led to considerable client growth, and the provision of banking & financing solutions to several commercial banking clients mainly in the Digital and Tech industry followed by other industries like Industrials, Mobility, Healthcare and Consumer Goods

The Senior Credit Analyst is a strategic professional and critical partner to the Coverage team who can support our ambitious growth plan. The candidate will be expected to lead credit due diligence with clients and be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of credit requests internally and externally.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the end-to-end credit process within the CCB portfolio for the assigned relationships and portfolio.

  • Prepare detailed written credit summaries by analyzing the business and performing detailed financial analysis for new-to-bank and existing credit relationships, including pre-screening opportunities.

  • Prepare credit ratings and financial projections in order to assess the repayment capacity of borrowers.

  • Ongoing early warning monitoring and the preparation of annual credit reviews for a portfolio of clients.

  • Knowledgeable of assigned portfolio and industry, and able to articulate and support a credit view based on well-supported analysis that effectively balances risk and business objectives.

  • Ensure appropriate regulatory classification and minimizing net credit losses for covered portfolio, as well as identify emerging areas of concerns that should be escalated.

  • Provide accountability for decisioning using credit covering approval authority in tandem with Risk.

  • Lead the timely analysis and preparation of monthly and/or quarterly financial memo reviews of existing borrowers to track compliance with loan covenants, triggers, raising potential concerns and taking necessary actions in partnership with other key stakeholders for the assigned portfolio.

  • Direct and supervise the loan documentation process for both new transactions and amendments or modifications; including coordination with internal partners and/or outside legal counsel to ensure that all credit approval terms and conditions are appropriately represented in the closing documents.

  • Conduct periodic client calls or in person meetings on all portfolio clients and select new to bank opportunities in partnership with the coverage team.

  • Develop and maintain an extensive knowledge in the various credit products and services offered to CCB clients.

  • Mentor and develop junior analysts to become effective resources and future Credit Officers or Bankers.

  • Recommend changes to improve existing processes to achieve greater efficiency and controls.

  • Other job-related duties may be assigned as required.

Competencies & Experience:

  • Completed university degree or banking training with appropriate further training.

  • Commercial/Corporate banking experience (8-10 years) with a focus on credit analysis and underwriting.

  • Desirable banking industry experience in Germany and fluent in German language.

  • Proven analytical skills including the ability to read and assess company financial statements, cash flow, industry and competitive analysis and projections.

  • Experience dealing with complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting needs.

  • Requires good analytical skills to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex material from multiple sources.

  • Knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and its practical application in the credit underwriting process.

  • Effective inter-personal and written/verbal communication skills.

  • Thorough problem recognition and resolution skills

  • Experience working with and negotiating LMA Investment Grade or Leveraged RCF and Term Loan credit agreements.

  • Experience preparing financial assumptions to build cash flow projection models.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, problem recognition and resolution skills, and ability to work independently and within a team.

  • Pro-active disposition with ability to work autonomously and within a team.

  • Good knowledge of MS Office programs.
