Jay Peak Resort Bartender - Seasonal in Jay, Vermont

PART-TIME or FULL-TIME | SEASONAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE

The Bartender provides timely, accurate and friendly service while preparing the highest quality beverages for our guests. This position is responsible for maintaining the bar area, serving restaurant and bar guests while performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

  • Required to attend Liquor Control Board Seminar and successfully gain certification to serve alcohol.

  • Maintains knowledge of beer, wine and mixed drinks using an extensive range of ingredients.

  • Delivers a consistently high level of guest service and maintains a safe environment by identifying problem areas with guests or facilities and resolving them safely and properly.

  • Keeps bar area clean, safe, organized and well-stocked with liquor, beer, wine, mixers, ice, napkins, straws, etc.

  • Rotates stock and places orders with management for liquor, beer, wine and other supplies.

  • Prepares garnishes for drinks.

  • Records and collects payment for drinks served and provides change as needed.

  • Maintains and organized cash drawer throughout the scheduled shift.

  • Mixes all drinks based on the standard serving sizes and keeps drink costs at a minimum.

  • Develops an efficient work pace to keep guests satisfied at all times.

  • Takes orders and enters them into the Point of Sale system accurately for transmittal to kitchen staff.

  • Takes beverage and food orders from guests and wait staff and serves them with attention to detail.

  • Provides a positive and friendly guest experience by interacting with them in a friendly and energetic manner.

  • Maintains bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink prep/promotion.

  • Clears and reset tables.

  • Maintains cleanliness of all bar areas to include counters, sinks, utensils, shelves, storage areas and drains.

  • Presents drink menus, make recommendations and answers questions regarding beverages.

  • Checks identification to verify legal age requirements for all customers.

  • Monitors all guests for appropriate alcohol intake and mitigates inappropriate behavior.

  • Supports the safety of all guests by ensuring safe rides home, calling taxis/Ubers and/or notifying Security.

  • Stocks and rotates beer, wine and liquors endorsed by each facility.

  • Takes inventory of alcohol and notes to manager what orders need to be delivered and when.

  • Performs cash-out of cash drawer at the end of each shift and notes any discrepancies.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor, which could be directly related or unrelated to the original position.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Point of Sale and Order processing systems.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must hold valid Vermont Department of Liquor Certification (every 2 years). Opportunity to attend the seminar will be provided in some cases.

    OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Must have the ability to think quickly, maintain awareness of surroundings and monitor guests for signs of alcohol overconsumption. Must have the ability to provide top-notch customer service and multi-tasking focused ability to oversee the bar, it’s guests and the exchange of money.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed. Hospitality or bartending training an asset.  Must be 21 years of age and have extensive knowledge of liquor mixed drinks, beer and wine.
