AutoZone, Inc. Accountant, Payroll in Memphis, Tennessee

Autozone Inc. is a leading automotive retail company with a strong commitment to customer service and operational excellence. We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Payroll team. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance within the payroll function.

Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Journal Entries and Reconciliations:

  • Prepare payroll journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP and Autozone’s policies.

Identify and resolve payroll suspense errors promptly. Collaborate with Finance and IT to prevent future errors.

Ensure proper general ledger (GL) coding for new HCM data elements, stores, and departments.

Account Reconciliations and Compliance:

  • Perform payroll-related account reconciliations, applying basic and complex accounting knowledge

  • Clear reconciling items in a timely manner.

  • Analyze accounts for compliance with relevant regulations.

  • Audit Support:

  • Assist with internal and external audit processes related to payroll.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, providing financial insights and consulting on matters related to payroll.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Generate ad-hoc reports and perform account analysis as required by management.

  • Conduct data and systems research to support decision-making.

  • SOX Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls for journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliation.

  • Support other payroll-related processes as needed.

Process Improvement:

  • Maintain process documentation and seek efficiencies.

  • Contribute to process improvements within the payroll function.

  • Tax Balancing:

  • Assist with daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual tax balancing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (MBA preferred).

  • 2-3 years of financial analysis and accounting experience.

  • Excellent computer skills.
