The summer music camp is hiring for Academy instructor and counselor positions.

Available positions are:

  • Southern Maine Theatre Academy, Sunday, June 23 to Friday, June 28, 202 – Camp is for outgoing 7th graders to outgoing 12th graders

  • Theatre or Musical Theatre instructor/counselor (6-day appointment)

  • Youth Band Day Camp, Monday, June 24 to Friday, June 28, 2024 - Camp is for outgoing 5th graders to outgoing 6th graders

  • Saxophone and Jazz Band Coach (5-day appointment)

  • Percussion Coach

  • Southern Maine Music Academy, Saturday, July 6 to Saturday, July 13, 2024

  • Flute Coach/Dorm Counselor

  • Southern Maine Junior Music Academy, Sunday, July 21 to Saturday, July 27, 2024 - Camp is for outgoing 6th graders to outgoing 8th graders

  • Percussion instructor/dorm counselor for middle-school musicians (7-day appointment)

Instructors and counselors are required to:

  • Attend production meetings and rehearsals as needed.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with Camp Director and Summer Camp Coordinator.

  • Instruct and supervise student musicians/actors.

  • Participate in on-campus meals and housing for resident camps.

  • May be a resident or non-resident counselor, as agreed upon hire.

  • Provide any materials as requested for publicity and promotions in a timely manner.?

These positions are located on the Gorham Campus. Depending on specialty and responsibilities, rates vary from $741 - $1227 per camp session.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Maine Certified Music Teacher, a Professional Studio Teacher, or Professional Performing Musician or Actor, or show relevant training and experience in the desired discipline.

  • Must have a band instrument as a performance specialty for the music academies, or a theatre-specific discipline for the theatre academy and be able to teach and coach sectionals and small ensembles as appropriate.

  • Record of professional scholarship and/or creative endeavor in area of expertise.

  • Requires participation in all camp activities as a resident counselor for the resident camps, or commuter for the commuter camps.
